Marianne Gruenwald was born March 27, 1921, in Altendambach, Germany, the daughter of Victor and Hermine Pabst. A graduate of the Goethe-Schule, Erfurt, Germany, with a degree in graphic and fine art, she was an author of several German children's books. After she and her husband, G. Gruenwald, were brought to the United States by General Electric Co., she continued working in watercolor, charcoal and pencil. She exhibited first in Pittsfield, Mass., then in Erie at the former Erie Art Club, where she held several one man shows in the 1960s. Her works were also accepted in juried shows in Chautauqua Institution, New York and San Francisco. In the 1950s and 1960s, she was an active member of the Erie Philharmonic Auxiliary, where she frequently designed decorations for the Viennese Ball. She was also a member of the Erie Playhouse Wing, where she acted in several shows for grade school audiences.
